Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I'm ready for coaching?

Coaching will add value if you have a desire to accomplish or experience something more. If you desire just an incremental change, you can probably manage it on your own.

People who aspire to both success and significance inherently know that they are capable of a bigger life. But sometimes life gets in the way. And you're left with this tiny voice inside of you saying there is more for me and I want it.

If this sounds like you and you're ready to stretch outside of the comfort zone you created for yourself, then you're ready for coaching. And Leadership That Matters is ready for you.

How do I get the most out of the coaching process?

To get the most of coaching, we'll ask you to fully show up for the process. The more willing you are to reflect, to share what's important to you, to stretch, to consider new perspectives and options, and to try new things, the more you will get out of the process.

We ask clients to prepare for each session by reflecting on what they have moved forward since the previous session, and by spending some time between sessions choosing the focus for the upcoming session.

How does the coaching process begin?

All coaching processes begin with a two-hour Foundation Session. As your coach, it is important to get a sense of how you view your work, the people around you and what's most important to you. As a result, this initial session is designed to discover your aspirations, values, motivation, career, life and coaching goals. Coaching clients are provided with questions to think about in preparation for this session. The information gathered is used as context in future sessions.

What happens next?

Each coaching engagement is unique and will be customized to ensure your coaching goals are fulfilled. The most typical coaching process involves a one-hour session every two weeks for a total of two hours of coaching a month. The process is most effective when you commit to a consistent schedule. We work with you in the Foundation Session to design the most effective process for you.

Does your process include a 360° Assessment?

We have significant experience with a variety of 360° assessment processes and build this into the coaching process when it will add value. Some of our clients already have 360° data and/or data from other Executive Assessment processes. If this is the case for you, we would ask your permission to review this data in advance of the Foundation Session.

Is the coaching done in person?

The Foundation Session is generally face-to-face, at your office. Subsequent sessions are done over the phone unless alternate arrangements are made. (back to top)

How long will the coaching relationship last?

Coaching is a process of discovery and growth. Stronger and more consistent results are achieved as the relationship develops. The initial relationship lasts a minimum of six months. Many clients continue to work with us beyond six months to continue growing and achieving the goals they set for themselves.
